I woke to my 5:15 alarm from a labrynthian dream that felt like it sprawled over hours. Apt because in it, I was traveling from Lakeville - through Salisbury, into Sheffield and toward S Egremont - with the destination of getting to work at Smitten. Which, at present, is in the town I live now, Durham. North Carolina, not Massachusetts. Two unusual occurrences were the environment that I was navigating both: a fight with my tween and a massive flood. I met up with two people who were rafting the train tracks in the same directions and I hitched my sled to theirs. We had to move out of the way when trains came but we alighted to a fancy Amtrak train with car after car of green leather seats and banquettes with hundreds of people, smoking, drinking from heavy crystals glasses and generally disregarding the natural disaster out their window.
the layout is similar to that in my dream but the seats in mine were avocado 70s naugahyde, not velvet.
Then, James Bond style, we had to go below to the secret car where everything was Tiffany blue instead of avocado. A subterranean car where we couldn’t look up because the people in That Car were so famous, that like the sun, they couldn’t be looked at directly. It was only after we exited this strange train that I realized I’d missed a text from Nancy early that morning, telling me not to come into work that day because the weather would too awful.
This dream was exceptionally vivid but I often go weeks waking up with only the thinnest recollection of the dream world. What dreams do you remember?
It is so odd to me that I rarely remember dreams. If I do remember one and don’t write it down within minutes of waking up, I will forget it almost entirely. Now, ask me to recall any single memory from childhood and I can recount the smallest of details. I think this is survival brain. Will I have more space to dream when I let go? This is the topic of my next post. The space to dream seems pertinent for evolution.
Dreams… as a child I had a recurring dream of animals in the woods dancing around a fire. The bear was scary! I can still picture the entire dream. Now I have very vivid dreams. Many times I dream about somebody and then find out the next day they died. I hate those ! My ex used to say “ please don’t dream about me!” . I am not sure why that happens, but it has quite a few times. Most of my dreams are kind of crazy, but I do have some that I am certain contain a message.
June! Animals dancing around a fire with a terrifying bear sounds like such a small child dream. How incredible that you remember that! I'm very superstitious and read messages into even small things so I would definitely come to dread the dreams I had as an adult about others. Amazing all of this! Thanks for sharing.
I remember at least one dream a night. My dreams are also fantastical like one you've described here. I read somewhere that if you try to make an effort to remember your dreams (or write them down with consistency) you're better able to remember them.
I write them down sometimes, but before I go to sleep I make a conscious effort to remember my dreams. I guess it's like an affirmation: I will remember my dreams in the morning. It really works. It drives my husband nuts because I love telling him about my dreams. HAHA.

Mmmmm… that’s a banger of a last line! “ the space to dream seems pertinent for evolution” Love that Holly.

Wow...One dream a night! Do you write them down, Gloria? I love the idea of remembering more of them.

That's GREAT! The affirmation and the telling. Thanks for sharing, Gloria.
