a blue nightgown gifted to me by my grandmother. It's from the last time I saw her.

Oh my goodness! What a lovely inheritance, Diahann. Is the nightgown wearable or kept as a special keepsake in a chest?

I realize it's not quite an heirloom. But because it was her last gift it's pretty special to me. I don't even think it fits me anymore!

Doesn't have to be an heirloom! Mine certainly is not :-) Special just as it is, worn or lovingly thought about.

I inherited my great grandmother's brass bed. It is approximately 125 years old-she received it as a wedding present in 1900. She was 20 when she got married-my great grandfather was 40. My grandmother was born on the bed (different mattress of course!) My great grandmother donated the bed to be used as scrap metal during WWII and it sat in a local dump for many years until my mother discovered it and had it restored. I can't say it's a pretty thing, it is dented in multiple places and it's rather gaudy to be perfectly honest, but it's part of our rich Oklahoma heritage so I cherish it. It will be eventually passed on to one of my young cousins who I hope will love it as much as I have.

Oh I have so many! My great-grandmother’s Singer sewing machine and her sitting chair; my grandmother’s earrings she gave me (she said she admired them in a shop window when she and my grandfather were early in their relationship and he bought them for her); my grandfather’s cowboy hat.

Aren't you so lucky, Melissa? How wonderful to have these cherished items. And I love the background behind the earrings. <3

My Dad gave me my grandmothers cutlery set in an original good housekeeping cherry wood box. Complete with a certificate of purchase and a paper layout of how to set a table. Also a cleaning cloth for the silver. I use it once a year.

My Grandfather Thomas James Coutts Bain was an artist and sculptor. As a thirteen year old he painted a large painting of a blacksmith making horseshoes . I feel so blessed to have this piece! He painted it around 1909. I have a schoolbook of his where he sketched drawings as well.
