People default to "what do you do for work?" or maybe "where you from?" when they meet regular people for the first time but when they meet a published author, they often ask (from what I'm told!) "what's your book about?"
I once read an article that said to write a non-fiction book is to be willing to talk about (insert that book subject here) for SEVERAL years AFTER it is published. It’s what the book is marketed around (divorce, addiction, the bond between sisters, loss of a child, medical mystery, etc.) and by default, it’s what you become known for. The article ended with the advice to write about something you can go on and on about.
Me talking about one of my fave subjects at a conference in 2018
So I wonder: what do YOU like to talk about? When you lose time explaining or sharing passionately with someone what’s the topic? Doesn’t matter whether you are a writer or not. I’m curious what you like to wind on about.
The carceral system and why it should be abolished, the challenges for those currently incarcerated and the challenges of reentry (and the importance of community)
How important it is for children/people to have outdoor and free play time.
Food! I'm not really a big eater, but I love cookbooks, nutrition, and thinking about food/drinks and what goes into making them and how it impacts our world.
Traveling.
Truth is I love to connect and I love to learn about anything really.
I love this question! I like to talk about:
Books! Books! Books!

How important it is for children/people to have outdoor and free play time.
Food! I'm not really a big eater, but I love cookbooks, nutrition, and thinking about food/drinks and what goes into making them and how it impacts our world.

What a varied list, Molly! I love it. You and I could talk all day long on most of these. Thanks for reading and chiming in with your thoughts.
