I don’t know if it was a function of child rearing in the 60s and 70s, or just my family, but we definitely learned not to draw attention to ourselves just because we were sick or hurt. We grew into adults who could ignore all kinds of symptoms and discomfort.

Boy oh boy, does this ring true, Janet. Both the not drawing attention to one's self and becoming the adult who ignored any hurt we were feeling. Thanks for sharing this.

For sure I was not. It was a different time. Very often I heard the statement, "You're fine." Rarely was it true!
